In April there was a three day weekend and so my friend Ashley and I took a road trip in Ireland. We flew into Dublin and stayed the first night there near the airport. We picked the car up in the morning and we were on our way...
I rented a manual shift car and they drive right hand drive cars so that kept us on our toes. Luckily Ashley is a good navigator because she can't drive manual (oops)!
It seems as though the whole country is divided up by walls made of rock. In fact the rock walls are along both sides of most roads.... and the roads are very narrow in many cases. It seemed like the speedlimit was 100 on every road even if it was a two way road that was 12 feet wide!
We headed south west towards Limerick making side trips and stops along the way to see castles. The countryside was beautiful. It was very green with little white sheep everywhere!
We came across our first castle relatively quickly.... then our second... then our third.. We quickly realized there are more castles in the country than we cared to look at. Every picture on this page is a different castle and this isn't even all of the ones we saw!Luckily when we tired of castles we got to where we drove through Connor Pass. It is two way trafic but only one lane! We stopped near the top and enjoyed the breathtaking views.
Somewhere in this time period we stopped at the cliffs of Mohr. There was a bit of mist but it was a very clear day making for some impressive pictures.
Another castle... or at least whats left of one. I thought it made a nice picture anyway. We had breakfast or lunch (I don't remember which) at a little cafe overlooking this beach. It was a very pleasant break from being in the car.
The famous Blarney Castle!
Scott kissing the Blarney stone! I don't seem to have received the gift of elequence despite this germ filled act...
By the end of our trip we had visited quite a few places including Cork, Waterford, Killarny, the Dingle Penensula, and many smaller towns. All in all it was a great trip.See all of my pictures from Ireland:Pictures from Scott Stewart
That's it for now...
